Before: Blank slate
Medina Grillo, a home blogger from Grillo Designs, says that when you have a lot of home design ideas but live in a rental apartment you must make compromises. With her simple apartment in Birmingham, England, she clearly understood the importance of this. The only exception was the painting of the lower half, which included the “built in ugly melamine wardrobe.” Medina’s husband was firm in his commitment to keeping the king-sized bed in their small bedroom.
After: Magic Happens
Medina managed to transform a difficult space that was filled with many obstacles into a charming bedroom. The bottom half of the walls was painted black. Medina used a laser level, painter’s tape and tape to keep the line straight. The room’s focal point was the midcentury modern dresser that she dip-dyed. The wall was transformed into a gallery wall with fun and symmetrically arranged curios. Medina, the coup de grace, painted the melamine wardrobe and wallpapered it with a gorgeous Moroccan-inspired tile effect paper.

Modern Vintage Small Bedroom Makeover by Grillo Designs
Gray and Dreary before
Chris and Julia from the popular blog Chris Loves Julia were given one day to transform a bedroom. The bedroom’s gray walls and popcorn ceiling texture were too obvious. This bedroom was an ideal candidate for a quick refresh.
After: Love and Light
Budget constraints prevented major elements like carpeting from being made. One solution was to add a colorful area rug to top the carpeting. Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray was used to paint the walls a lighter gray. Julia and Chris came up with a brilliant solution to the ceiling problem: install a lower-powered light fixture. The new ceiling light’s angle picks up less of peaks and valleys that can be found in textured popcorn ceilings.
Before: Flat and cold
According to Jenna Kate, a lifestyle blogger, this primary bedroom felt flat and lifeless. It was dark and cold. The bedroom needs to be brightened.
About This Term: Primary Bedroom

About This Term: Primary Bedroom
Many real estate associations including the National Association of Home Builders have deemed the term “Master Bedroom” discriminatory. The term “Primary Bedroom”, which is more accurately reflects the room’s purpose, is now popular among real estate professionals.
After: Serene Space
Jenna loves her new primary bedroom. It lightened the space by sticking to a pale gray and white palette with touches of taupe. The bed is adorned with beautiful pillows, and bamboo shades give it a more natural, warmer feel.
Before: Blank Canvas
Addition of color is a common way to transform bedrooms. Mandi, a lifestyle blogger Vintage Revivals realized that Ivie’s bedroom was a boring white box with a dresser.
After: Color Splash
Now, a cheery Southwestern-inspired pattern graces the walls of her daughter’s bedroom. The shelves can be extended to store all the things a child wants. Ivie will love to relax in a hammock chair and read with her friends.
Before: Zero Storage, No Personality
Kristi, who blogs about lifestyle and decorating, moved into her condo with “old dingy flooring, textured walls with glossy paint, and popcorn ceilings with antique ceiling fans.” Worst of all, there wasn’t any storage.
After: Show-Stopping
Kristi made the bedroom more spacious with new curtains and floral headboard. Two separate closets were added to the bed’s side by side.
Before: Plain and tired

Before: Plain and tired
This bedroom, tired and worn out, needed a style overhaul on a tight budget. Brittany Hayes, interior designer at Addison’s Wonderland, was the perfect person to transform this bedroom.
After: Surprise Party
Brittany and her friends created a budget-friendly boho bedroom for their friends as an anniversary surprise. This Urban Outfitters tapestry makes the high ceilings in this room disappear. Its vibrant color pop will make it stand out. The look is completed with a new comforter, fur rug and wicker basket.
Before: Small Room, Big Challenge
Melissa Michaels from The Inspired Room had to make this small and dark bedroom into a welcoming queen-sized room.
After: Relaxing Retreat
The relaxing retreat was given new window treatments and a traditional-styled headboard. A fresh coat of paint was also applied to the room using calming colors. Although the headboard hides the window’s short length, it still lets light in to the room.
Previous: Time for a change
The bedroom was dark, stuffy and cluttered. Cami, a lifestyle blogger at TIDBITS, took action to transform this bedroom into a space of beauty.
After: Timeless
The bedroom featured a large bay window. This made it easier for TIDBITS to transform the room. Cami painted the walls in the upper half that were dark, brightening up the room. The room was completely remodeled by Cami using amazing finds from thrift shops. It was a traditional, timeless bedroom.
Before: Too Yellow
Bold yellow paint is a great choice for certain situations. But this yellow was not mellow. This bedroom needed a quick makeover. Tamara from Provident Home Design was able to provide the right solution.
After: Tranquil
Tamara retained the yellow color in Polly’s bedroom, but she toned it down using Behr Butter paint from Home Depot. Spray-painting a soothing silver was applied to the old brass chandelier. The bedsheet was transformed into drapes. The best part is that the feature wall was built from scratch using inexpensive medium density fiberboard (MDF).
Before: Without personality
The bedroom had no personality and was dimly lit. This bedroom was meant to be Riley, a nine year-old girl who was fighting brain cancer. Megan, a blogger at Balancing Home has four children and decided Riley needed a lively bedroom.
After: Heart’s Desire
The bedroom was transformed into a charming, fairytale-like forest for girls to relax, dream, and play in. Megan, her family, friends, and other companies donated all pieces.
